TRANSWAY® is an ontology-based, multi-agent system that assists operators in the development of movement plans by incorporating expert agent technology and collaborative software into the planning, replanning, and execution processes. TRANSWAY® uses agents to provide the operators with information that is helpful in comparing variables such as cost, speed, timing, complexity, availability of goods, availability of transports, and availability of hubs (e.g., supply centers, shipping ports, and airfields).

History
Sponsored by the United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) (J6), TRANSWAY®'s initial development included a technical design report and a proof-of-concept system. TRANSWAY® Version 1.0 is currently in limited release and undergoing testing.

Process
As a set of intelligent replanning tools, TRANSWAY® assists operators in the analysis, evaluation, and generation of alternative shipment plans as availabilities change and problems increase in complexity. TRANSWAY® has been designed as an adaptive Deployment Distribution Operation Center (DDOC) toolkit to assist USTRANSCOM in the planning and replanning of multi-modal movements. The ontology-based technology of TRANSWAY® provides seamless connectivity to external data feeds such as the Global Transportation Network (GTN), the Integrated Computerized Deployment System (ICODES), and the Joint Forces Collaborative Toolkit (JFCT, formerly known as SEAWAY).

Technology
TRANSWAY® is based upon the Integrated Cooperative Decision Making (ICDM) framework.
