History
ICODES was created for the U.S. Army Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC), to satisfy the need for advanced technology to increase the speed and efficiency of military transportation planning. After Desert Storm and Desert Shield, it became apparent that existing stowplanning systems based on sequential, single-tasking methodologies were unable to accommodate frequent cargo substitutions and conveyance changes that inevitably appeared in transportation operations. SDDC commissioned CDM Technologies, Inc. to develop a system that would employ the experience of mobilization experts and make that knowledge available throughout the stowplanning process. In 1996, ICODES was selected as the migration system for ship load-planning by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). It has been deployed by USTRANSCOM through SDDC to the U.S. Army since 1999 and is currently being fielded to the U.S. Marine Corps. ICODES is deployed at more than 60 sites around the world with a user base of more than 2,200.
Process
ICODES has been developed to increase the efficiency of transportation planning performance by incorporating computer-based expert agents that offer technical solutions to complex problems. These agents create a partnership and collaborate with embarkation specialists during the various stages of the stowplanning process. ICODES does not automate the process but rather assists the human user in making safe and productive decisions. Therefore, ICODES is a system in which computer-based agents and human users, with very different but complimentary capabilities, interact to solve problems.Support
